Subramanya swamy temple - Thiruparankundram


Lord muruga's weapon called "vel" is specially worshipped in only one place called thiruparankundram in madurai district of tamilnadu. Nine soldiers who had helped lord murugan in the war against surabathman have special temple here.

Speciality:

Lord muruga can be worshipped with deivanai as in a marriage. On last friday of tamil month of puratasi, special abhisegam is conducted for lord muruga's weapon which is called as "vel" in tamil. 11 theerthams are here including "saravana poigai".

This temple is a hill temple and is the first arubadai veedu or first house for lord muruga. During full moon day, people go girivalam around this hill temple. People offer rice food after fulfillment of wishes regarding marriage and birth of a child.8 vinayagars can be seen at the back of this temple as it is the place where ancient temple is situated. People offer rudrabhisegam for Lord dhakshinamurthy  here.In opposite direction of murugan temple, lord siva can be worshipped as aadhi sokkanathar. Here  sivalingam which is made by sri durgai can be worshipped and is called as "devi lingam".Here lord perumal can be seen in place of nandeeswarar which is a specility as this temple is called "malvidai kovil".This temple is situated at a distance of 7 kms from madurai on the way to kanyakumari.
